The concept of jewellery reunited happened after a few months of searching desperately for my wedding, engagement and eternity rings.
My husband, Alan, (who runs The Guild of Jewellery Designers) and I had only been married six months; I work for the NHS and my rings are not part of uniform policy
so have to been removed on a regular basis... I had no idea where I'd put them. I searched high and low, frantically calling friends, even looking at photos on my phone
to see when I'd last worn them to no avail. Imagine my surprise, elation, and husbands relief, when I found them in a hair dye box... A kind of cool hiding place.....
had I remembered where I'd taken them off!
Once they were back on my finger, it got me thinking; what if they had been lost outside of the house, how could my chances of being reunited
with them be increased?
So, putting my thinking cap on, I thought I'd ask my husband to laser engrave my phone number on them and if they were found I could be contacted
(he also owns a company which manufactures laser engraved wedding rings - GETi) ... what if I changed my phone number? It would need to something more permanent.
So the idea of creating a serial number that could be engraved on an item such as jewellery, then linked to the owner and a website to link the finder
with the owner of the item was born. After suggesting this to my husband, who is just a bit computer savvy, an international database and website
was created and I called it Jewellery Reunited. The rest is history.
